Aurel is a village in the Pays de Sault between Sault and Montbrun at the border of the Vaucluse, Drôme and Alpes de Haute Provence. the village is hooked to a hill surrounded by fields of lavender in many caves of the town, archaeologists have found the significant tooling proving that this territory was occupied from the Neolithic. 
In the twelfth century, the castle belonged to Agoult Counts of the Abbey Falls and Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon owned a church. The walls were built in the fourteenth century, there are still some remains.
