Nested in the solid mass of Esterel on a field of 1049 Théoule hectares offers to you its splits and creeks with the red rocks of the sights seizing on the sea, the coast, the mountain.

The town planning controlled and integrated into the site knew to preserve the traditional seal of this village.

History of Théoule

To the 5th century Théoule belonged to Eucher Gaulois of high aristocracy and Seigneur of Mandelieu Napoule. This village was in antiquity one of the ports most significant of Toulon with AntibesAvant to become a seaside resort, Théoule was devoted to fishing. It grouped in the beginning only one about thirty dwellings, and one could reach it only by one small way, nonsuitable for motor vehicles, known as of Trayas.

About 1898, a householders' association was formed with in the chair architect Mr Hourlier, with an aim of defending the interests of this small hamlet.

This action was continued by Mr Ferrouillat, owner of the castle of Théoule and Directeur of the newspaper Lyon Républicain, assisted by Mister de Latenhiere.

The road of the Gold cornice

This road offers one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Riviera. Initially country lane towards Théoule, it becomes road on the initiative of the Mayor of Mandelieu, Ludovic Guize, which proposes in May 1899 the opening of the Way says "New Cornice of St Raphaël in Cannes".

But its construction will not start truly that thanks to the offer of contest of Touring Club of France on November 19, 1900.

The Touring-Club, founded in 1890, worked with the development of tourism, initially velocipedic then automobile by the means of offers of subsidies. Linked behind their dynamics President, Abel Ballif (1845-1934), his leaders made pressure on the authorities for this realization.

Moreover, a monument is built in Trayas in the honor of Abel Ballif. Mr Guize, mayor, will propose that the new road, finished on June 2, 1901, names boulevard of Touring Club of France with Mandelieu.

Become the Gold Cornice, this?uvre imposing follows the meanders of the coast in steep turns, red porphyries arising magnifiquement on the blue of the Mediterranean and offering an unforgettable panorama at every moment.

It was solemnly inaugurated on April 11, 1903 by a convoy of almost 200 cars followed by a flood of cyclists.

Bearing the name of Main road 7 for one period, for reasons of subsidies of state, it will be classified RN 98 in 1935 and is being one of the most beautiful roads of Europe along the Mediterranean.
