Commune frontier with Italy, integrated in the national park of Mercantour and located at the doors of the Valley of the Wonders, Tende is a large borough built in stages with mountainside.

Dominated by the tower of the Clock and the vestiges of the castle of Lascaris (Counts de Tende), this village which was a long time Italian (it joined France in 1947), mixes the alpine and Mediterranean influences.

Once parked on the pretty place of the town hall, from the repainted frontages of "a yellow Italian" gold heat, borrow the staircases which climb stiff inclined to reach the old medieval city.

The principal street which runs to hillside, will charm you by its green or gray stone frontages, an austere bit, enlightened sometimes of some horn-the eye, painted on a frontage or a fountain.

You will admire its bridges of old stone, its old surmounted doors of mysterious lintels, its placettes and its mazes of sometimes vertiginous lanes…

Supporting two doric pillars, two strange lions and framing a monumental gate in drowning massive 400 year old old man, a line of thirteen Saints contemplates you.

At the interior of this Historic building, still many wonders (nave of the 15th century, organ of 1812…) Veiled one "Our-Lady-in-the Assomption" which testifies to splendour to Tende during the last centuries.

You will be able to finish your visit with the Museum of the wonders, to include/understand the beliefs, the everyday life and the culture of the people which lived in the surroundings of the Bego Mount here nearly 4000 years.

Before perhaps leaving in excursion in the very close Valley of the Wonders, in order to admire these famous rupestral engravings "in situ"…

The winter you will be able to ski at the station of the White Reserve, located at Limone-Collar of Tends is approximately at 20 minutes of the village in the car. This station, with horse on the Italian and French territory, proposes more than 100 km of tracks and 33 ski lifts. You will be able to also practise ski touring in a site of forests and lakes with Casterino with 1600m of altitude and 20 minutes of the village.
