this village is one of most beautiful country of Forcalquier, one also says that it speaks with stars… When you discover it will include/understand… Coiled with the sun, under the pure sky of Provence, Saint Michel the Observatory was selected like strategic site of observation of the sky. Comets and planets of the solar system, stars and interstellar matters of the galaxy will not have here any more a secrecy for you (or almost…!!).



At the village, you will be able to discover beautiful frontages of the XVII° century by taking the principal street until the place of the Fountain. You will pass beside the low church Saint Pierre (XIV° - XV° century) then on his left, you will arrive at the doors of the high church Saint Michel (XII° - XVI° century) which deserves your turning for its originality and its superb terrace. You admire there all the country of Forcalquier, the Mountain of Lure and the solid mass of Luberon. You will go down again by a charming path which curves between the gardens in terrace (restanques) planted olive-trees.



St Michel the Observatory is surrounded of the sumptuous landscapes of the Regional Natural reserve of Luberon… fields of lavenders, green hills and aromatic plants form the background of this small picturesque village of the Alps de Haute Provence.



With the occasion of great ballades in the neighbourhoods, you will be able to discover old vaults, oratories, beautiful restored farms. In Lincel, small hamlet in the south of St Michel the Observatory, a castle with its beautiful park of cedars centenaires crown the top of the small village.

ASTRONOMY with St Michel the Observatory

In 1936 was built an observatory with 13 cupolas on the site of St Michel of Provence, designated like the purest sky of France.
