Saumane is a small village perched in a green frame which dominates the valley of Sorgue. Far from the crowd, you will be able to appreciate calmly a magnificent and impregnable sight on all the standing plain of pines, olive trees and Mediterranean essences.
By walking you in the quite small and very charming alleys of the village, you will discover some beautiful fountains, of beautiful typical stone houses of the region, some vestiges of ramparts as well as the donjon of the classic art castrum " Salmana " dating the XII °.
Everything in the top of the village, dominates an impressive castle - fortress which was formerly confided to the uncle of the famous Marquees de Sade. Built in the XII ° then transformed into real bastion in the XV °, it was abandoned to the revolution to be then restored in the XIX °. This house is today deprived and does not regrettably visit.
