Prat de Mollo the Swift one hangs its picturesque lanes on the southern buttresses of the solid mass of Canigou in Haut-Vallespir. Prats was one of the main cities of the border. The name of "VALLESPIR" appears as of the IX E century. It was written Vallis Asperis then, of the old novel asper, of the same substantive etymology than rough French, often associated the mountainous, broussailleux and difficult grounds of access.

Vallespir thus has literally the wild direction of valley.

Vallespir was for a long time a very isolated area. The first way suitable for motor vehicles between Céret and Prats de Mollo goes back to 1684. Previously the Romans had creates a way which connected the coast and Vallespir until Coustouges: "Via Vallespirana" which crossed it "Via Dominitia" around Boulou but was however of less importance.

This valley corresponds to the Western part of the basin of the river Tech.

It extends from west in is on 45 Kilometers length and 10 to 20 Kilometers broad.

It reigns on this valley a microclimate very influenced by the relief. Vallespir is a rather rainy area (on average 850 to 1100 mm of precipitation per annum) and little been windy.

The high Valley of Tech, whose course can have gone up until Prats de Mollo the Swift one, offers an exceptional course of valleys and throats.
