The grounds of the sunny adret were appreciated since Antiquity ". It is the Southern slope of the top of Méale (2426m), that the small authentic village of Orres chose. While, on the northern slope, developed since the Seventies the winter sports resort, with the foot of the two tops which make "border" between Embrunais and Ubaye, the Peak of Boussolenc (2832 m) and Aupillon (2916 m).
Of Latin "horreum" which means attic with cereals, Orres is composed of robust houses built out of stone and wood of larch, you will be able however to notice some old typical barns, with the roof going down very low, as of the steres of firewood which wait the winter.
Small village of mountain, Orres is however characterized by the church Sainte Marie Madeleine, built at the beginning of the 16th century, with bell-tower novel-lombard: still superb and imposing, cut in a beautiful yellow stone, it comprises a framed gate of three posts with capitals, geometrical forms, and a door of wood finely carved of Gothic interlacings, formerly sheltered by a stone porch resting on squatted lions of which one of them is still visible on the wall of the terrace. It is said that the small owl carved in relief in the wall on the right side of the gate, would hide a rebus around the name of the architect of the building (perhaps Chouet or Chovet).
