The village of Mées owes its notoriety with the narrow rocks which are drawn up on more than 100 meters in height on the commune. They are called the Penitent ones of Mées because of their silhouette; according to the legend, they represent the monks of the Mountain of Lure who were petrified (with the clean direction) by Saint Donat at the time of the invasions sarrazines to be épris beautiful Mauresques young women that a lord had brought back of a crusade. The rocks resemble indeed a procession of monks capuchés of their pointed hood which one guesses then ashamed their desires if one knows the legend…
The village of Mées is posed literally with the foot of penitent in tight rows. At the medieval time, the city was closed by a rampart of which there still remains some doors (St-Christol carries, carries Baudouine, carries Bertrand of Arm). You will be able to also see the primitive church of the village (Saint-Roch church) built on the basis of Roman monument.
To be able to admire the village since the heights, a very pleasant walk is to be made on the roofs of the penitent ones, (departure since the camp-site on D101).
