Out of the major roads, La Brigue is a medieval village, located at the foot of the Solid mass of Marguareis.Ce village of mountain shelters several historic buildings, most known being the Notre Dame Vault of the Fountains. Located a little at the variation, it conceals several frescos recalling the passion of Christ signed by Canavesio and Baleison, two Masters Piedmontese of the 15th century!

the village is splendid, to begin, on the place, by Collegial St Martin, imposing church baroque with the painted frontage misleads the eye of it. At side, an astonishing round vault (18th century) and, opposite, a beautiful fountain with heads of lions gone back to 1884.

The remainder of the village will also enchant you, with its many paved lanes, its long arched passages bordering the river, its richly decorated houses of trompe-l'oeil of merry colors, or firmly built out of green stone of Roya to the top of the doors, of the carved lintels (oldest gone back to 1234), of sometimes mysterious varied reasons, where one often finds a lamb or three letters IHS.

If the lamb seems to refer to the strong pastoral tradition of the city (20.000 sheep in 1818), the three letters mean Iesus Hominum Salvatori, (God Saver of the Men).

One can finish his visit at the top of the village, in front of the ruins of the castle of Lascaris, (which should be restored soon) to dream with the life passed, Tout while admiring a splendid landscape of high mountains
