Placed between Roussillon and Colorado of Rustrel, Gargas is a part of the haughtiness " road of the ochre ". Formed several hamlets scattered on the territory Gargas been a part of the Regional Natural reserve of Luberon.
The landscapes which surround Gargas are magnificent, in the foreground extend vineyards (A.O.C Coasts of Ventoux) with far off the careers of ochre which get loose from populated hills of pines.
Gargas stays the only village of Vaucluse to be possessed careers of ochre still in exploitation. Before arriving at the village, you will be able to see the ponds of settling where are placed the blocks of ochre before being aired in the sun and the cubbyholes in powder. Certain careers are not opened to the visit, inform you before venturing on a site of origin.
Gargas is a geologic place and a site rich in prehistory and in history. It is here that took place one of the big battles of the conquest of the Long pole as well as the tracks of environments dating from 6.000 to 2.000 years before JC!!!
