It is also the most significant city of the Alps of the South. The city extends to the foot from the Collar Bayard, at an average altitude of 800 meters. Near to the lake of Greenhouse-Ponçon and the National park of the Jewel cases, Gap is a feature of union between Dauphiné and Provence, the landscapes of high mountain of Oisans and the softness of the hills of High-Provence.

Between Provence and Dauphiné, Gap is impossible to circumvent on the Napoleon Road which connects Grenoble to the Mediterranean. In the medium of an extraordinary nature of mountain landscapes and natural reserves, Gap profits from a Mediterranean climate moderate by its situation to 750 m of altitude.

The winter you will benefit from the many ski resorts of the surroundings while your summer will be animated by the discovery of the road of the Sundials, botany with the Field of Charance (3.000 wild species of flora distributed on 220 hectares of mountain pastures, rocks and forests. One counts there a hundred peaks of more than 3.000m of altitude, and almost as many cascades and torrents. Most strange to discover is the landscape of the Capped Young ladies: in full nature of the columns stems out of stone with a hat at the top: astonishing!

In the heart of Gap, by traversing the centre town renovated, you will find the history of the old strengthened borough of the Middle Ages. In the vast pedestrian precinct, after having strolled along the shops, you will discover the town hall and the cathedral of the XIXème century. The museum of Gap invites you to a voyage in time, you will see the city of Southerly wind such as it was presented in 1550 as well as most of the cultural treasures of the High Alps.
