Pyrenean and Mediterranean Elne
Located at the c?ur of Pyrenees-Eastern, between sea and mountain (with 4km of the sea and with the foot of the Pyrenees), the city illibérienne profits from a single framework and a privileged environment. Place head of canton of 6500 inhabitants, Elne was in Antiquity on one of the only terrestrial passages possible between the Iberian world and the Mediterranean gaule.
Its brisk market is the reflection of a thousand-year-old and still alive agricultural tradition. Vines, orchards and market gardenings make of Elne a ground of savours.
Top of sound oppidum, occupied since three millenium old meadows, elne dominates the plain of Roussillon from which it is the oldest city. Strong 26 centuries of uninterrupted existence, episcopal see of the Life at the XVIIe century, the city kept testimonys of this long history and successive civilizations which marked it: Roman vestiges, majestic cathedral, cloister and ramparts medieval.
The cathedral and the cloister, the museums of history and archaeology, the museum Etienne Terrus, the galleries and the craftsmen of art, the festival "Music in Romance Catalonia" testify to a long artistic tradition.
