This small village full of charm well carries(wears) its name. It(he) tiend perched on a crest extremely the North of the mountain massif of Montmirail's laces. Before arriving at Crestet, you appercevrez by far the old village spread(displayed) proudly over the crest, facing the Mountain Ventoux.
To discover closer this picturesque medieval village, leave D938 you will follow then a small road ( D76) which winds in bend through the hill.
Once in the village, leave your vehicle on the placette to walk you in feet through the charming alleys caladées. You will see at the end of this placette, the medieval castle (XII °), the ancient(former) place of residence of the bishops of Vaison-la-Romaine. Formerly in period of conflict with the Counts of Toulouse, the bishops of Vaison came to take refuge with this castle when they were in danger. Today the castle is a private property, you will not so be able to visit him(it)... But the small medieval village contains the other treasures... You will not be able to miss the church St Sauveur of the XI ° with its houses regrouped wisely around the building as to protect itself.
You will visit also Stahly foundation, the ancient(former) house of the sculptor François Stahly, (property of the Ministry of Culture) which exposes(explains) in a original way sculptures and contemporary objects of art. To reach there the guests should take on the heights of the village the direction(management) of the GR. As by delight through the forest, an immense white house of cubic shape appears through trees. A path allows to discover works spread through the forest. All year long several artists are invited and conceive there their works, which are then presented on the site during exhibitions.
Do not leave Crestet without having risen to the highlight of the village. You will be able to have by a panoramic point of view on Montmirail's laces and the Mountain Ventoux to be cut you breath. A viewpoint indicator will help you in reconnaitre and to put a name on each of the peaks, crests, mountains and valleys.
