Its tumultuous past left him an impressive military inheritance: the village is girdled by ramparts and is kept by two forts. Colmars was at the end of the XIV° century frontier town with the territory of the Duke of Savoy, this situation imposed a protection system to him to face the attackers. Its defensive vocation was thus reinforced with the wire of the centuries following many wars and fires. It is with the XVII° century that Colmars will be equipped with a well developed system of fortifications and who gives him his current pace

By visiting Colmars the Alps, you will cross randomly its small streets, some beautiful old houses, pretty small places decorated with fountains which give much seal to the village. You will include/understand thus why Colmars belonged to the "villages and cities of character".

You are here with two steps of the National park of Mercantour and of the Regional Park of the Verdon, the fields of lavender and the canyon of the Verdon are not far… you will have really the embarrassment of the choice to choose your ballades and in winter you will be able to make ski touring on the field of Ratery.
