Buoux's small village is situated in a valley right in the heart of the Regional Natural reserve of Luberon. Due to the geographic situation, the village played a defensive role nature since the prehistory. At the top of the vast spur, Buoux's strong was of use of refuge to its population during the invasions of the means - age and during the religious wars. In 1660 the king Louis XIV ordered the destruction of the Strong, since this date the village abandoned its defensive vocation... Buoux lives(remains) a village countryman and pastoral.
Today by walking you in the village you will see that most of the houses date the environment(middle) and the end of the XVII °. These robust farms belonged to rich Protestants, they are now maintained and restored with care and give many stamp to the village. You will also be able to discover on the scene of the Strong of the portions of wall and the walls of chapel which stay the only vestiges of the fortress.
