Barbentane is located at the Northern end of the Mouths of the Rhone, at the border with Vaucluse and Gard, where the Durance joined the Rhone. Built on one of the slopes of Montagnette, Barbentane superbly dominates all the fertile and market-gardening plain which skirts the Rhone.

While arriving you will see the Anglica Tower which dominates the village top of its 28 meters and ends in a round turret. Built in 1365, it was the keep of the episcopal castle. It remains the large witness of the medieval time, classified Historic building, the Anglica Tower was sung by Frederic Mistral in Iscles d' Or.

Like habit with the Middle Ages, the episcopal castle was surrounded by a strengthened enclosure of which there remains today only 2 doors:

- Calendale Door dates from the Middle Ages (1302), it orders the Northern entry of the ramparts.

- Door of Seguier at the Southern exit of the ramparts (of of Provence the seca which wants to say to dry: it is in the street Séquier that the peasants made dry their vegetable harvest to have what to nourish itself in winter)

In the middle of the village, you will visit the Romance church of the classified XII° Historic building with its beautiful bell-tower and its porch in the shape of mantelpiece. You will see at its sides the House of the Knights, also classified historic building. This old house seigneuriale date of the XII° with some rehandlings and additions of the XV°.

Downwards, you will discover the elegant castle of Barbentane of the XVII°. There recalls by its architecture the residences of the Island of France (Paris area) and remains in conformity with the guns of the classicism. The castle of Barbentane was built since 1674 per Paul François de Barbentane (future first consul of Aix) and was completed only at the end of the XVIII° century. This castle which one also calls “Small Trianon of the Sun” is the residence of the marquis de Barbentane. It is with Joseph Pierre Balthazar de Puget, marquis de Barbentane and ambassador of Louis XV in Florence which one owes the sumptuous decoration (of Italian inspiration) of the parts of reception, decorated stuccos and of Carrara marble thus emphasizing in an exceptional way the movable rich person of time Louis XV and Louis XVI of the castle. Miraculeusement survivor of the Revolution of 1789, the residence today is still inhabited….by the marquis de Barbentane.

Outside, of the terraces bordered of balustrades of stone and sculptures open on a park… it is really superb
