The town of Arles was fed, during its creation, by a first aqueduct whose source came from the south of Alpilles.
At the time of the second policy of construction and expansion of the city, it was decided, for a question of quality of water, to set up another aqueduct which descends this time from north from Alpilles. This fact the first source was employed to provide water necessary to the operation of the flour-milling of the hills of Barbegal. These two marvellous single vestiges in Europe are located at two kilometers of the center of the village.
