The village of Moustiers, by its earthenware of XVIIe and XVIIIe centuries, became famous in the whole world. Their beauty, appreciated by the sovereigns of Europe and the large ones of this world, legitimates this fame.

The principal craftsmen of this deserved glory were Clérissy, Viry, Olérys and Laugier, Fouque and Pelloquin, the Ferrat brothers, Féraud and Berbégier, etc…

After 200 years of intense activity, détrônée by the fashion of the porcelain and English fine earthenware, the furnaces died out little by little about 1840, the last in 1874.

In 1927, Marcel Provence tried to return life to this art by relighting a furnace, activity now maintained by nineteen earthenware workshops of Moustiers

With the doors of the Gorges of the Verdon, Moustiers Sainte Marie is the high place of earthenware. Gathering 16 workshops and nearly 30 earthenware stores, Moustiers remains one of the principal centers of French manufacture of international fame.

Moustiers constitutes one of the gravitational poles of the Emerald valley.

The site is built in amphitheatre with 630m altitude in the medium of exceptional landscapes and two rock pitons which overhang Moustiers with famous star of a knight suspended with 227 meters.

In all seasons, Moustiers offers splendid walks to you that that is in the heart of the village (its architectural heritage is astonishing) or in the neighbourhoods (cascades of Rion, Our Lady of Beauvoir or the cave of Ste Madeleine).
